Squid Boy Protects the 2007 Mermaid Parade
"Cephalapods are people too"  - Squid Boy,  the Charlie Rose Show,  2007

Getting Around...                                              Propulsion,  Pecs,  and Pumas

Squid clearly rank,  among cephalapods,  at the top of the protostomes in terms of size,  intelligence,
trophic dominance,  and sexual prowess.    Their main form of locomotion is jet propulsion;  and
regarding
quality,  squid jets are periodic,  steady,  and characterized by prolonged emissions of fluid that exhibit
an elongated core of high speed flow.

Squid Boy is highly adapted for rapid jet propulsion,  with most of his body weight in his mantle muscles,
ensuring rapid,  synchronous contractions.    The jet is also his primary exhalant pathway for respiration.
Squid Boy's abnormally well-developed pecs and large ears are responsible for a quantitatively large amount
of drag,  and typically create a disadvantageous degree of leading vortex ring state at high speeds.
For low speed maneuvering and hovering,  Squid Boy also utilizes fin propulsion.
As his swimming speed increases (as when he is chasing Lobster Girl),  the contribution of his fins to
the production of thrust decreases,  until they ultimately wrap tightly around his muscled shoulders,
protecting some of his tattoos.

Because he spends time on land also (for example,  when he cashes his paycheck),
Squid Boy's two main tentacles are presented in a bipedal arrangement and are
structurally capable of supporting his full mass.    For traction as well as support,  Squid Boy wears
old-school Puma sneakers which prove valuable on the boardwalk's unsteady planks.
They are also stylish and make a statement about Squid Boy's 1980's values and morality.

For longer treks,  Squid Boy has been known to catch a dollar-cab,  or take the subway,
though Metrocards seem to degrade rapidly underwater.    Police hassle him wherever he goes.

...At least that's what he says...   ...or used to say...

Everything changed the night that fiery meteorite crashed near the pier.    Everything.
